Project Argus

I am interested on the effect of a HANE (High Altitude Nuclear
Explosion) ionization effect (not EMP)on UHF to SATCOM frequencies up
to 300GHZ. There was a naval experiment called Project Argus back in
the late 50's investigating the effect of a HANE on radio
communication and radar. Of course, back then no one was using UHF
and SATCOM.

Except from a document dating back from the 80's dealing with MX-1 C3
which was very vague, there is not much data on this phenomena.

Why are you asking here?

Hi OM,

Try searching:
http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/

A good search term might include "Electromagnetic Bombs" (E-Bomb)
which relate to this field of your interest.

Another sidebar might be found at:
http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/
which is the HIGH FREQUENCY ACTIVE AURORAL RESEARCH PROGRAM
This group would study the effects you speak of, and possibly generate
them as well, although not by nuclear means.

If you "google" search on Project Argus and James Van Allen's work related
to his earlier discovery ("inner"and "outer" radiation belts with Explorer I
and III) and work (Aurora work with Navy and rocketoons) .. there is some
commentary that may be of interest.
