Radials and HF2V

I'm planning to put up a Butternut HF2V, so... thinking about burying
some radials.
Questions...
I have moles in my land, do they eat radials?
What is the best wire to use, ie most durable for buried radials?
Will I be better off with elevated tuned counterpoise wires?
Any advice?

Tks...

The Molus Radialus species prefers radials to any other food. Check
with your local Forest Ranger to see if you have that kind.

Those copper-munchin' little critters, they really have brass balls, don't
they!

use Copper wire (as opposed to alum) - insulated or bare - your choice - I
would pick solid insulated.
Someone on this group mentioned using a chain saw to make slots in the
ground for radials - and it sounded like a good idea. Some used a modified
edger and made it work. I suggest getting some asprin or ben-gay for the day
after installation.
moles eat grubs - so don't disguise the radials as grubs and you should be
ok.
If squirrels didn't eat my dipole, the mole should leave your radials
alone - its the rule. :-)

Not sure about moles.

But at a previous house with a pier & beam foundation, I had telephone
wires running in the crawl space under the house, along the top of the
dirt, and howling feral cats in heat chewed the daylights out of the
wires. Broke my telephone connection.

Telephone guy came out and he asked what the hell kind of animals I
had under the house. Said the wires were mangled beyond belief.

He installed a new set of wires up on the house walls, with the wires
firmly stapled in place. That solved the problem.

I'm guessing the cats liked the flavor of the insulation.
