It's 10.00 hrs, Xmas Day.

"George" is the nicest-sounding name in morse code. Its really rythmic and
sings.

Nice to find such an interesting post on RRAA. And yes, George does have a
nice sound.

It's interesting to me that many CW ops declare that their own callsign,
however mundane, has an especially distinctive and appealing rhythm in
Morse. Mine does too ... BDU, send the B, drop a dit, then turn it
backwards. Logical like the laws of nature.

But NICK is another thing. You need an extra bit of pause between the N and
the I for clarity. And a mis-heard extra dit at the start of the N makes me
Rick, while one heard at the end changes me to Dick. Hmmm ...

I don't know history, but I do enjoy well written stories and opinions.
Readers should go to Reg's page to see some more.

It raises the question of whether the "F" word had its
origins amongst the telegraphists.

It, too, is very rhythmic.....

_Di_didahdit _Di_didah _Dah_didahdit _Dah_didah.

My dictionary sez it came into existence around 1500 from
the Middle Dutch word "fokken" (thrust) and/or the Swedish
word "focka" (push) from which we apparently got the title
of the record breaking movie now playing in the US.
