Effect of whip diameter on resonant frequency
Whip A is 72 inches long with a taper that varies from 3/16 inch to 1/8 inch.
Whip B is 62 inches long with a taper that varies from 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch. Both whips, when connected to the same antenna base, resonate at virtually the same frequency. Would this be because whip B, though 10 inches shorter, has a higher surface area and a higher capacity which makes up for its shorter length? Explanation appreciated. Ron |
