RFI: 2M & Aviation band antenna for pick-up truck.

I have a handheld tranceiver (VS VXA-700) and I'd like to mount a good
antenna on my pick-up. Can you point me to a good retail product? My
pickup is an 02 F150. I'm thinking I'd like to use one of the stake pockets
as a mounting point? If I need to compromise on antenna band width, I'd
lean toward best reception on 2m band.

Anything hidden pitfalls I need to be aware of?

Thanks,
Carl

Also, what about a 1/4 wave glass mount? Any good? Others better? Thanks.

I'd just do what most with CBs in pickups do - snake the coax out through a
window and put a mag mount on the truck roof.
On-glass antennas are inefficient.

Myself I prefer the Motorola "Spectrum" antenna I have one on a mag mount
for V.H.F. and one on the roof on a ground plane as a base antenna.I also
have a U.H.F version for base and mobile

I used a mag mount antenna on the right front fender and brought the
coax under the hood and then through the firewall into the cab. The
hood had enough gap to allow the coax in without kinking or mashing. I
secured everything under the hood with cable ties. I used a 1/4 wave (I
think) about three feet high. And I have used one of the very short
antennas, about 19 inches high with very good results. Comet, Diamond
and Hustler all make good antennas.

Good luck, jimbo
