Default Alinco EDX2 under chassis mount?

Hi all...I am preparing to mount an Alinco DX-70 transciever in my 2003 Merc
Sable and have found a spot underneath the body next to the frame rails on
the rear passenger side of the vehicle to mount an EDX2 tuner....this will
give me a very short piece of wire needed to attach to the base of a
vertical antenna.
I am a bit leary of exposing the tuner, despite the case being in very good
condition, to the extreem environment underneath the vehicle...
Any suggestions as to a material to wrap the tuner in??
I guess I could make a platform next to the vertical antenna to attach the
tuner, but would like to try the underbody method first.
