I am not certain that a Rhombic for 160 would fit in your 10 acres. In part
it depends on the
configuration of the lot. 10 acres in a square configuration would lead a
side of about 650 feet. A wavelength is 160 x 3.1 or 496 feet. So the side
of the lot is less than 1.5 wavelengths on 160 -- not very long for a
rhombic. Do you have really tall supports for the Rhombic? You clearly have
enough space for a rhombic on 20 meters and perhaps 40 meters.

Do you really want to have most of your power going in only two directions?
This would assume that you could selectively feed one end or the other of
the antenna while terminating the other.

Perhaps one or more 160 meter center fed wire antennas arranged so that you
could choose the one
with lobes in the correct direction for your contact on the your choice of
bands would work out better.

Ed, N5EI

A rhombic is highly directional and fixed in place.
What do you want your antenna to do for you?

What about a full -wave loop? Approximately 150 feet per side for a
square. Feed it from a corner or the center of one side. Tune it for
all bands.

Its just one of many options.

I second the motion. The full wave loop will do it all.

Free radio,
No, a rhombic wouldn't be a good choice for an 'all
band' antenna. I think a better choice would be several
antennas optimized for particular bands, as high as you
can get them. But, since you rule out towers, and I've
no idea what trees you may have on the property, the
multi-antenna thingy may not be a good choice either.
Lots of help, huh?

PS - The large horizontal loop idea isn't a bad one...

ok thanks for the tip i will go with the full wave loop ant dont really
need 160 meters .

'Doc February 27th 05 07:10 AM

....Pssst. make it a full wave on 160 meters, that way
you get it all.
