Hi Jim, Yes, I've heard of knife-edge refraction, but the instance I was referring to in the article had a real positive benefit. As I recall, the operator went from zero contact to satifactory contact by hooking up 2 beams back-to-back at the summit, with one beam pointing back at him - and the other beam pointed to the otherwise unreachable distant repeater. I wouldn't have thought something like that would work without some signal amplification. But it does. How critical would the matching on those beams have to be? I am wondering if maybe a 300 ohm wire could run from DE to DE on the two beams. -- 73 for now Buck N4PGW |
