Larson glass mount question

Im going to be installing a Larson KG450UDPL 450-470mhz glass mount
antenna on my 2004 Dodge Ram pick up and i was wondering if anyone
knew the best spot to place this antenna. I have read about glass with
tint causing problems. The rear window (where i want to put it) has a
light tint, how will know if this will make my antenna performance
suffer? Are some tints worse than others? I hate to stick it there and
have not work then have to scrape it off. The windshield is clear but
who wants an antenna on the windshield?

Thanks alot

You can ask the dealer, but they may not know.
My expedition is similar, and I have no problems with the two I'm running.
They tune nicely, and radiate as well as I expected them to.

Dan,
Tinting causes problems because some tints contain
metal. Very few of the tints available in the US have
metal in them. Mount the antenna and forget it.

An example would be the rear window in a Transam. It has a metallic
coating that breaks up into circular dots as you move away from the
top. Once you get away from the solid area, but over the dots the
Larsen glass mount works well.

Like Doc, I've seen few other US manufactured cars with the metal
coating on the windows.

metal in them. Mount the antenna and forget it.

Dan -

The On-Glass FAQ on the AS/ Andrew web site is a good reference -
for these style of installations.

I understand it is the tinting with metalic particles that can cause
problems -- also known as passivated glass -- check with your auto dealer.

Check out the EZPASS transponder site at

Turns out that I have a no-no vechicle, but I put the transponder below the
heavy tint. Works OK.
