ISP WAP Polarization
My internet service provider has established a wireless access point on top
of a light pole about a mile from the shack. I'm going to TRY and hit it with a passive repeater (two antennas back to back). I'll use either a caffeine collinear (coffee can reflector) or a popsicle stick yagi on the outside and a plain old dipole inside the shack for reradiation. My isp doesn't have a clue as to whether is WAP is polarized horizontally or vertically. Does anybody in this ng know for sure whether WAPs or horiz or vert? Jim |

Hi Jim, I don't "know," but given that the WA of WAP suggest strongly of maximum coverage (which is antithetical to horizontal gain antennas with nulls), vertical polarization would seem a good bet. This does not limit you to having a vertical gain antenna (with nulls), in fact it could be a speed advantage (cutting down on phase errors lowering through-put). Simple enough to tilt your antenna to find out which orientation does the job (once you know where the base station is, that is). 73's Richard Clark, KB7QHC |

That being asked, most are vertical, such as Motorola Canopy and Tropos. tom K0TAR |
I would guess vertical. Most wireless cards or routers for home use
have their antennas vertical. Probably a little easier to make it omnidirectional too...
