CSA Fan-Lite (LFH) Antenna ?
 

Anyone using the CSA Fan-Lite antenna ? It's in use with the SOCOM, USAF
and Marines. Looks like a nice antenna, but what could make it worth $4,000
to the Gov't ? And another $6,000 for the collapsable mast (I see these on
eBay... one went Thursday for $125). ? I got the "Government net..." prices
from the manufacturer....

Those six resistors, or toaster elements obviously add to the price of
the antenna. They subtract from the efficiency of the antenna,
however. The military wants something that is broadbanded, easy to
erect, and doesn't need a tuner. It doesn't matter that they will have
to run a KW to this thing to get the results most hams get running 100
watts to simple dipoles.
At one time, and they may still, the military had high power ATU's,
that would load bed springs. But these were quite expensive as you
might imagine. I think this is a way to save money on portable HF
installations.
