Quagi for 446 ?
I have recently built the identical twin to this quagi for 446 pictured here
http://users.adelphia.net/~rmccomb/images/100_0532.jpg from the plans he http://commfaculty.fullerton.edu/woverbeck/quagi.htm I understand the spacing and am curious how to wire the two together??? You may have read my old post. I am using 75 ohm line as it is all I have available currently. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Soon to be liscensed -Ryan |
Ryan- one thing to keep in mind about this Quagi antenna is that,
Wayne designed it for weak signal work (read SSB/CW, at 432-435 (oscar) frequency range . Yagis, and presumably yagi- quads are not noted for great bandwidth . The elements for this will be SHORTER than the ones for 432! Also, that you want it for 446 MHz, tells me that you want to operate on FM, which is Vertically polarized (yagi elements in a up- down direction) the Original quagi was designed tor Horizontal polarization (elements left-right!) , meaning that the antenna needs to be flipped 90 degrees! You might have to find a webpage, or a design article for the quagi , as it is used with an FM rig. To NOT turn this 90 degrees, would actually caus a loss of 20 dB (1/100th the power), not gain! They will work on fm, but need to take this into consideration. Hope this helps, and BTW, the reasons that fm uses Vertical Polarization has to do with the ease of omni directional antennas, while, horizontal , for weak signal work has to do with lower noise levels on recieved signals, and the need for mazimizing the signal strength of weak signals Hope this helps, Jim NN7K rmccomb wrote: I have recently built the identical twin to this quagi for 446 pictured here http://users.adelphia.net/~rmccomb/images/100_0532.jpg from the plans he http://commfaculty.fullerton.edu/woverbeck/quagi.htm I understand the spacing and am curious how to wire the two together???
