Slow Google Sight
 

Seems like the patronage on this group is going down.
I know that the Google updates are extremely slow,
which is irritable and doesn't encourage posting.
Shouldn't we change the site of antenna conversations
before it goes downhill all together ?
There must be a place to post that is updated more
quickly than once or twice a day ( snail mail equivalent)
to keep interest going.

Art, teach me something. I subscribed to the NG r.r.a.a directly.

How does Google get into the act? What does Google do to contribute to
the NG files or distribution? What am I missing?

Don't confuse Google with the underlying newsgroup. The actual
net-news propagation is quite rapid.

Why bother? The slowness you are observing is almost certainly an
artifact of the specific site/service you're using to post and read,
and doesn't indicate problems with the underlying (distributed,
world-wide, and very functional) USENET news distribution system itself.

There must be a place to post that is updated more
quickly than once or twice a day ( snail mail equivalent)
to keep interest going.

I see new articles pop up in this newsgroup several times per hour.

You can get higher-quality access to this newsgroup by signing up for
an account with a site which provides direct NNTP-based access. The
one my employer uses is SuperNews (www.supernews.com) - they have both
personal, and corporate accounts. You can download suitable
reading/posting software (e.g. Free Agent) from their site.

There are also some sites which offer no-cost NNTP access to USENET -
try www.teranews.com, www.eastbaytech.com,
http://www.free-newsservers.com, or try a Google search for "free NNTP
accounts"

My ISP, which charges all of $20 monthly, has its own newsgroup
computers, and I access them directly with my newsreader, Forte Agent,
which, by the way, is an excellent reader (see the Forte web site). I
get updates all day & night long.

We're posting our stuff in the right place -- you might consider an
alternative to getting your newsgroup stuff off of the Web-based
Google, which, from what you say, is ponderous.

Look in your locality for an ISP with its own newsgroup computer(s).

Art, my ISP subscribes to newsfeeds.com so I have internet and
newsgroup access for $8/mo. For an additional $6/mo, I have access
to the newsgroups through the GED computer where I work. Google
is good for archives but not so good for real-time newsgroup access.

and download the list of all the news groups handled by your ISP
(there should be 40- or 50-thousand). Then subscribe to the ones you
want, such as this one.

This is exactly how it's done. Buy the commercial version and get
extras (like spam filtering and email handling, if I am not mistaken).
I've had the store-bought version for years and they are about to
upgrade with big additions. Your purchase should allow for a free
upgrade - maybe, consult the link already offered above.

Well thanks everybody, I obviously have to get away from Google
so I can be up to date. I now have something to follow up with the
sites suggested as well as a check with my server to see what they
have to offer
( I assume that my server is the isp referred to by posters)

Thanks for that Richard.
My server does have that news thing as has been pointed out and then
there is your suggestion. I am now going to consult my son showing him
all the links that have been presented here and go from there.
Thanks everybody, now I see that it is Google that is giving me fits
and I must get away from them.
