"---who the hell is Kraus?"

I asked the same question long ago because his contributions were not
directly a part of the curriculum where I studied.. They should have
been.

John D. Kraus is an Emeritus Professor of Electrical Engineering and
Astronomy at Ohio State University. His amateur call sign is W8JK which
is also the name given to a family of antennas, which are just one of
the types he invented.

If I were limited to only one book devoted solely to antennas, "Antennas
For All Applications" by John D. Kraus and Ronald J. Marhefka would be
my choice.

My daughter gave me a copy in July. In August when I was visiting her in
London during the record breaking heat wave which killed so many
chickens in France, I looked out the window of her air conditioned flat
and spied one of Kraus` helical antennas on a rooftop just across the
street. I`m sure many Brits are familiar with Kraus. McGraw-Hill is the
publisher of his book.

Best regards, Richard Harrison, KB5WZI
