Looking for UHF only TV Antenna
 

I have been looking for a UHF only outside TV antenna or plans on
how to construct a double bow tie like antenna. Right now I have a 50
foot short run of RG-59 to an upstairs patio post. At the end of the
coax run I user an old TV antenna transformer to interface to the 300
ohm lead from a single bow tie (that came with old TV). This setup
works but surely there is something better. We are not that far from
the transmission sites but an inside antenna will not work.

Most Radio Shacks still sell the Antenna Craft OEM - UHF product.
Top of the line (mfg) is Weingard product (BTW both made in Burlington, IA)

Our True Value hardware store has them.... then again, we
only have UHF TV translators here in where I'm located so maybe that is
why they stock them.

I believe Radio shack has a model available, too, but the
double stacked bow-tie antenna I bought for $24 at the hardware store was
superior.

I order a Radio Shack inside antenna that was junk and sent it back.
May have to find a Weingard dealer.

home depot has "HDTV" antennas. They are primarily UHF with a couple
of VHF elements scattered in them. They, or Lowes may have what you
are looking for.

Also 300 ohm twin-lead, if properly installed, will bring in a
stronger signal than the coax will.

The half-size (4-bay) would probably do it for you.

With a Channel Master 7778 pre-amp I'm receiving all of the Phoenix
hi-def channels from 100+ miles away.

Probably just the pre-amp would fix your problem.

I've got an older rat shack corner reflector yagi/log thang that
is fairly decent. But I don't know if they sell them anymore..
It's the same basic antenna as the UHF section that you would
get if you bought the big UHF/VHF antenna.
The one I have has a corner reflector with 10 total elements.
Then it has the driven element, and about 14-15 director
elements that are all the same length. I used to to
receive the local UHF ATV machine. It was great for dx though
when the band opens up with ducting in the summer. I'd
watch stations all over the place from Houston. IE: San Antonio,
Austin, Corpus, Little Rock, West memphis , etc..
The ducting on UHF is actually even hotter than it is on VHF
most of the time. If 2 meters opens up, check UHF TV...
Half the time it will be wide open. The antenna I have would
eat the average bowtie for lunch. But like I say, they may
have quit selling them.

First, go to http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx and find out where
your stations are, and how big an antenna you need.
www.warrenelectronics.com sells all the stuff you will need. If you operate
any HF or VHF, you might want to get a UHF only mast mounted amplifier, to
keep TVI out. I have the ChannelMaster 7775, which works well. Ditch the
RG59, and get decent RG6 coax.
