The ARRL Product Catalog at the link

lists a book titled "Stealth Amateur Radio", with a second printing in 2001.
However, the catalog entry for this book has "SOLD OUT!" in bold red font. A
check for this book on eBay finds one copy available for $100!! I then
called the ARRL store and was told that they didn't know when this book
would be reprinted and made available. The clerk mentioned something about
needing to get the author's permission first.

Since there appears to be a demand for this book, why wouldn't the ARRL rush
to get this book reprinted and posted for sale? BTW, is this book any good?

Yikes! Give me $100 and I'll keep putting up steath amateur radio
ideas on www.n3ox.net... oh, but I guess I'm going to keep doing that
for free.

I doubt the book is quite that good... I'd like to read it since I'm
stuck in an apartment for a while.

I imagine that it's like the other ARRL station/antenna books, there
are a lot of things that you would have seen other places, as there are
plenty of flagpole and magnetic loop antennas, but there are still some
novel approaches and good reference material for things you need to
look at again.

It is a bit strange that they're awaiting permission from the author...
maybe he's incommunicado or something.

ARRL can't just 'rush to get this book reprinted' because they are NOT
the author. The author has copyright [$$$] interests in publication.

The author is: Kirk A. Kleinschmidt, NT0Z. Try contacting him.

Although there can be and are exceptions, a publisher generally acquires
the copyright from the author prior to publication, so it can reprint as
it chooses. But it's also not unusual for the contract to stipulate that
the copyright revert back to the author when the publisher is no longer
interested (e.g., after the last printing they intend to do has sold out).
