W3EDP HF Antenna ?

Hi,
Does anyone use or have used the W3EDP longwire antenna?
Due to the location of my shack I can only use a longwire type antenna for
HF.
My tower holds numerous VHF / UHF antennas as I run the local BBS so an HF
beam is out of the question.
I would like to hear what your thoughts are on this antenna if you have ever
used one.

Mark,
I found it. It appears to be a typical end fed random wire
antenna. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Depending on the
size of the capacitor it may only be good for QRP, and I think
I'd go with a good radial ground system if possible, not bother
with the counterpoise'.
An alternative to the 'LC' network would be a good tuner
which
make it a bit more versatile I'd think.
Good luck and happy holidays...

Hello Mark ,,,

I have used the W3EDP antenna with my K-2. This use however has been
strictly in the field. I made mine from that old Christmas Tree lamp wire
so it was free. The short stub was placed at a minimal angle off of the
binding posts from the BNC connector. A tree is used as a terminus at about
a 35 foot elevation ....my accurate limit for an underhand rock toss.
Performance .... it works well given the simplicity. The EDP was also used
in a "bizarre" configuration by me where the end was several feet off the
ground and the rig was on a 3 story balcony. I casually worked about 25
countries on 20 and 15 between lying on the beach and drinking beer during
one week. The only difficulty I had was an inability to effectively tune 15
meters during one night in the woods. That was a little strange as the K-2
tuner is very effective. The antenna is sort of a relative to a Zepp from
what I have read.

Put it up and try a few configurations .... you might be surprised ....
Merry Christmas and the best for 04 Mark
