nc 100x -- what will i have?
i have an opportunity to buy one in non-running, but otherwise good
(external cosmetic) fair (internals). i guess you would call it 'restorable' but not 'collector quality' whatever that is. it will require a lot of cleaning and certainly debugging - caps etc and maybe a tuning eye tube w/other tubes. no readily apparent mods/cludges. furniture looks to be original. i am not familiar w/nationals and have never worked on one but i like the looks and the period. if i put in the work, what will i have? -- i am familiar w/some of the older halli's like the s-19 and the halli line in general. how good was national built and engineered and to work on? what typically breaks that i will never locate a spare for? can we compare it to a halli i would recognize? i have a basic ref on receivers of the era and i have picked up the bama docs, but they don't answer the 'is it worth it? and 'will you hate yourself for trying it?' the ref book seems to say the 100 was from the 'good' 'old' national..... i know this isn't very focused, but i appreciate any opionions. ab |
