It was announced today that Kellogg's and the Federal Communications
Commission
have signed a pact to issue Amateur Radio Licenses on specially marked boxes
of
Corn Flakes.

In this unprecedented move the FCC believes this will not hurt amateur radio
but
allow all individuals to receive an Amateur Radio License without having to
demonstrate any skills with the exception of being able to use a pair of
scissors
to cut out their operating permit from the breakfast cereal box.

Kellogg's spokesperson commented that they were proud to have been selected
by the
government to be the issuer of licenses for Amateur Radio in the US and hope
to
soon make an agreement with other cereal loving countries. They also expect
that
will be issuing certificates of achievement for DXCF for confirmed contacts
with
100 corn flakers.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Roger:

I guess your little "news item" is symptomatic of most us remaining hams. I
had forgotten about "cereal box offers." I'm guessing most younger people
never heard of them.

I've worked at my present job for three years, and I have yet to write a
letter. Times have changed -- for 'offers' and for ham radio. No matter
how much boatanchor junk we accumulate, we can't turn back the clock -- wish
we could.

Hmmmm........ - does it come in "Raisin Bran"? I'm ok with Corn Flakes, but
prefer Raisins. Wheaties aren't my favorite. Hey wait - what the hell am I
saying - I've already got my Extra - from way back when! Damned.
Guess I'll have to wait for the next exciting offer. Maybe a free radio!
Could always use one of them.
