HQ-170 Parts? Subing related parts.

Anyone know if the T13, 1.05 to 2.05 Mcs antenna transformer in the
HQ-180 could be used for T12, 160 meter antenna transformer in the
HQ-170 ??
Also, What about using one of the 60 Kcs IF transformer for the T28
BFO coil? Possibly use one winding as the 60 Kcs BFO oscillator coil?
Anyone have any ideas or possibly tried this ??
Any info or opinions are most welcome and appreciated.

Should work ok. You will need to adjust the inductance with the slug, but
it might tune ok. You may have to fiddle around with a trimmer cap, but as
I recall the antenna peak has a lot of latitude.

All you need to do is get enough inductance to resonate on 60 kHz, then tap
it for feedback (I assume it is using a tap). I used to use old coils out
of tv sets to get down there. Get the amidon info on their website and wind
your own on a toroid, You could even use a coil out of a low frequency (85
kHz) ARC-5 - the 190 to 550 kHz version. You can often find those
butchered.

I had a friend who blew out all of the front end coils when he transmitted
into the receiver. He made things worse when he switched bands to see why
the receiver was not working. I wound coils on just about anything that was
handy and got it working fine. The antenna trimmer takes care of a lot of
slop.

Hi Randy, I had to replace one of the IF coils on an HQ-145 and found
Charlie at the Hammarlund dot org web site to be very helpful ( and
reasonable). You can visit his web page and look up the Hammarlund part
number to see if he has one.

Randy, I have 40 or so Hammarlund transformer/inductors removed from
cannibalized HQ-170/170A's (and maybe a HQ 100 or110). If you can pass
on the actual p/n, printed on the side of the cans in question, perhaps
I can help. There should be two sequence numbers on each can. de K3HVG

Jeep, Thanks for your offer. Actually, I have located a local Ham here
in my area that has an HQ-170 parts receiver. I am driving out to his
QTH this coming Saturday and see if he has the parts. If I can use you
for a backup on this, it will be most appreciated. What I am looking
for are these items.

1. T12, 160 meter antenna transformer, p/n K38926-1
2. T28, 60 Khz BFO oscillator coil, p/n M42005-4

The T12 in my receiver does not have a p/n on the can, the other IF
cans, etc. do have the p/n. The T28 is completly missing from my
receiver. These p/n's that I have are from the HQ-170 book that I
printed out from the Bama site. Thanks and I will let you know how my
visit goes Saturday. 73 de Randy, WB5KCM

Jeep, I wanted to tell you that I was able to obtain another HQ-170
for parts when I visited the local Ham here last Saturday. I have
already extracted/installed the two coils and they are working like a
champ. Thanks for your offer and I may take you up on that later if I
get into a bind. 73 de Randy, WB5KCM
