Icom IC-230 help wanted
 

Subject:Icom IC-230 help wanted

I acquired this modern boatanchor for $000.00 and surprise-surprise; it
doesn't seem to want to transmit. I guess I could check the mike first, but
other than that, does anyone know the common problems for this rig?

Wow, this was Icom's first sythen. 2-meter radio in 1970s .. ~ 1973 or
1974 -- as I remember.
Locate the schematic, owner's manual and service manual.

A few parts (ICs) may be on hard to find or difficult to obtain lists. I
bet the 12 volt lamps are burned out or have at least been replaced once.

Start with determining IF the radio is drawing any additional current (when
transmitting).
Check T/R relay and then either start with the audio stage and run through
to the RF amplifier.
OR start with the 10 watt RF amp section and work backwards - your choice.

Thanks for the info.
I think I found the actual problem, however. There was a bad soldering job
on the mike plug. when i correct that, I'll see if that's all that's
needed. The 12 volt lamp may have been replaced; it's working fine at
present.
