Glass HV Fuse - supply ??? dims .. 80mm x 6 mm 500mA glass

Glass HV Fuse - supply ??? dims .. 80mm x 6 mm 500mA glass

fuse is breaking 1700v Dc , looks to be part powder filled

Any ideas as to supply ? trade mark looks to be 'S' in a
rectangular box

Tnx

Bussman type HVA is a larger diameter, but the right length and available
in half-amp size with plenty of high voltage interrupting ability.

They are fairly common in broadcast transmitters.

Give the Bussman rep a call; he may be able to locate something of a
smaller diameter. You want to talk to the electrical power guys, and
not the electronics guys.

check your local electrical supply house. be ready to pay big.

Ok thanks for the link , thats very close , this is from a skanti
400 w ssb tx , but as its no longer in production, the makers are not
'helping' looks like the easey way may be to use a 500mA microwave
oven fuse ... but i dont think that will be a 'quick blow' type of
fuse , the pa uses qty 2 4cx250-b in parallel and a big 400hz
invertor psu running from 24 v dc @ 45 amps for the whole set ...

Thank's

Microwave oven fuses are on the transformer primary and are normally
intended for 250VAC maximum use. 3AG types will sustain an arc for a hell
of a long time with 1KVDC across them. Remember, AC arcs will quench a
lot easier than DC.

Call Bussman and see what they can do for you.

oK , The fuse ive had to use in the past is 500mA @ 5 Kv , it would
be nicer to fit the original , even the microwave ones are not
cheap !

Ill try them in the moring - tnx - G ..

I had always seen ceramic -- instead of glass (fuses) -- in this
applicaiton

A lot of HV fuses are filled with a ceramic powder or with boric acid to
quench the arc faster when they break. If you do that, there's no reason
to use a glass tube since there's nothing to see inside anyway.

The ceramic cases are also less apt to explode when the fuse blows.
