It probably won't do any good to admonish you. *Your bad habits are likely
to be ingrained. *What good does it do to criticize a person's project After
he has lavished a good deal of time and sweat in restoring it? Do you practice
this bad habit often? *What would Miss Manners Say?

He'll find out soon enough about the SX-100's instability problems (that is,
if he hadn't already known *when he undertook the project). *Perhaps he might
even figure a way of overcoming the initial design problems! A few shims,
reinforcements, etc. may go a long way...things that you may have had the
opportunity to do back then, but didn't.

No, I didn't, back then. It was a dog so I sold it at an OARA convention
and bought a 75A2 to modify.

mechanical stability is touchy. But the chassis is simply
not stiff enuf in the right places around the whole front

One of my SX-100s has been the victim of a serious attempt
to cure the mechanical instability and the changes do make
it the most stable of the three I have. A previous owner
used #12 solid wire to form bracing for the shield that
separates sections of the tuning capacitors. Two wires run
from the front of main tuning capacitor frame to the shield
and to the rear of the capacitor frame. These are soldered
at each connecting point. A third wire goes from the shield
(attached in the area of the bandspread cap) back to the
T-notch filter box. Getting this shield to hold still is a
big step in the right direction, as evidenced by the
superior stability of thie particular SX-100.
