Hallicrafters S-76 Alignment
 

Now that I've replaced a defective cap inside an IF can,
the radio is fairly hot on most frequencies. However,
the published alignment procedure leaves the low end of
the standard broadcast band somewhat weak.

Any ideas or revised alignment procedure for the S-76?

The S-76 does not appear to have any sort of padder
for the RF on the lower two bands. Probably the RF
transformers were adjusted at the factory by moving turns on
the secondaries. Look at these and see if you can spot
anything. You can sort of test this by adjusting the HF
trimmers to see if you can get a stronger signal on the low
end. Its not surprizing that the transformers may have
changed a bit with so much time.
