National NCX-5 help
 
a friend of mine is restoring a National NCX-5 MKII
seems he has 2 of them with the same problem,,,both are about
1khz of at best on the tuning
anyone out there have any ideas

One Khz. is not bad for a radio of that vintage..How are you checking
the freq.?Are you checking frequency in transmit condition? when you
transmit in CW the radio may be designed to shift 1 KHz in freq.See if
you can get more details ,OK. W4PQW

That's not a problem, that's a miracle! I wish I could get any of that
gear to calibrate so accurately.

If he really wants them to read out closer than 1 KC, he can bend (very
carefully) th plates onthe VFO tuning capacitor. You have to remove a little
circuit board or some such thing to the left of the odometer readout to get
access to it.

By benidng and twisting the plate segments, he should be able to improve it.
But honestly, this is a fine rig, and if he isn't experience in "tweaking" caps
this way, I'd say learn to live with it. 73, Mike K.
