Wanted: 225 MFD 300VDC Capacitors

I'm looking for 4 225 MFD 300 VDC capacitors. The ones I'm replacing are
Mallory screw mounted cans from a Swan 1200 amplifier. If you have a set
that you can do without, please email me at with your price.

Thanks and 73,
Jeff

I think you'll find a few free 200uF, 400V caps if you part out some old
monitors or AT-power supplies.

Most of those are 200V caps these days, I am sorry to report.

But, you can get standard 220 uF 450V caps in modern packages from Digi-Key,
1-800-DIGI-KEY. MUCH better high frequency performance than the old ones,
too. They are small enough that if you are worried about it looking original,
you can gut out the inside of one of the screw mount caps and solder the
modern cap inside, then put it back together with RTV and get something that
looks perfectly original but performs much better. And they are three or four
bucks.

Antique Electronics Supply has some screw-mount caps that they are having
someone produce for them, but they are not at all cheap. They also have
the old metal can twist-lock electrolytics from Mallory too. But they are
FAR more expensive, and they don't have the low ESR and low series inductance
of the modern designs.

DO NOT ever buy used electrolytics. Electrolytics do not age well, and old
NOS ones often have limited lifetimes.

Thanks for the suggestions. Really the only reason I wanted the screw mount
caps was so I wouldn't have to completely change out the mounting hardware
on the under side of the board. The snap in caps would have required that I
basically rebuild the board from scratch. I wasn't concerned about the
amplifier looking original (lots of mods already), so I bought some solder
lugs and a handful of nuts to go on the top side of the board for each screw
connection. Once they were bolted onto the board I just soldered the newer
style caps to the solder lugs. It worked really well.

Thanks again for all the suggestions that were posted to the group or
emailed directly.

All the new ones, yeah :-(

That's why I mentioned the older ones, like the VGA/CGA color's are great
for those. Got two 200uF/400V of one CGA Samtron once and two more
out of it's '286 power supply - score!
