Zenith Wave Magnet :-)
PU one of these for three dollars at a yard sale yesterday. It's model
#6-G-601-M, has a 'sailing ship' sewn into the cloth grill over the speaker. It's just AM but what the hey, I saw one on ebay. Any one in here ever own one and can tell me about the performance, I've googled all night. One guy said "it's could really pu those signals"..but that is just one persons opinion. It has a real cool looking 'Wave Magnet' in the back that is connected to the radio, pretty wild looking IMO...lol....anyone have any idea as to the year it was made or a link you can throw my way? It'd be appreciated. :-) -- ^~^~^Monitoring The Spectrum^~^~^~^ *********Hammarlund129X & 140X********** ^^^^^^^^Heathkit Q Multiplier^^^^^^^^^ *~*~++++++GO BEARCATS++++++~*~*~ GE P-780 -- ^~^~^Monitoring The Spectrum^~^~^~^ *********Hammarlund129X & 140X********** ^^^^^^^^Heathkit Q Multiplier^^^^^^^^^ *~*~++++++GO BEARCATS++++++~*~*~ GE P-780 |

They are *extremely* potent at picking up BC band stations, especially when you rotate the Wave Magnet antenna to null out interfering stations (since the selectivity isn't all that great). The 6G601M was a "companion" set to the original 7G605 TransOceanic. (BC
band only, thus simpler and cheaper than the TO.) More info on both models can be found at http://antiqueradio.org/transoc.htm .. My 6G601M is still unrestored, so I can't comment on the performance. What are you saying Barry? It's worth $6.00 {?} ;-P Yeah, I'd give you $6 for it! :) Sounds like you're going to have some fun with it. I'm finishing up a restoration on a Zenith Transoceanic H-500. Stripped and recovered the cabinet and am working on getting the electronics done. Unfortunately, this one didn't have the expensive 1L6 that it really needs to work properly. Have fun, Barry - N4BUQ |

There are some workarounds for the missing 1L6. A guy over on
rec.antiques.radio+phono makes an adaptor to use the older loctal tube, and there's a sub for the 1L6 if you just want it to make some sounds...although the sub (can't remember the #, someone will chime in with it) doesn't have very good h.f. performance. Many good resources on the web, in case you're not already aware of them. A good place to start is he http://trans-oceanic.fortunecity.net/index.html jak "N4BUQ" wrote in message ... It's the 1R5. If you sub it into a Trans-O, the top SW band or two (like 17 MHz and 15) might not work at all, but down on the AM BC band you probably won't see much difference. So get a 1R5 and try the set. --Mike K. Oscar loves trash, but hates Spam! Delete him to reply to me. |

Told ya'! Thanks, Bill. I had a mental block....
Fortunately, my three TO knockoffs (RCA 3-BX-671 & 7-BX-10, Halli' TW-1000) all have good(?) 1L6's. The adaptor won't fit in any of them. I think I'll post a 'want' for a 1R5 for everyday use (he http://hurtle.com/tubes/ ) and save the 1L6's for SW listening only. jak jak "--exray--" wrote in message ... jakdedert wrote: There are some workarounds for the missing 1L6.
