HK warrior

I have a Heath HA-10 Warrior amp that seems to have a hum when I turn on the
HV.... I replaced the Oil Filled Cap but it still has the hum.... any
ideas?

Do you know for sure that the hum is being generated by the amp and is
not being passed thru from your transceiver?

Does this amp use 811A's?
You might check for open bypass caps in the tube's filament circuit.

Hi,
Do mean a mechanical hum in the amplifier?
if there is no sign of overloading (extra heat, extra current drawn),
it may be just a loose lamination in the transformer or HV choke.

I didn't have a transceiver hooked to it.... just the amp itself

Hi ED, thanks for the response.... yes its a Mech. hum, I have never
put it on the air. I bought it from an estate and when I fired it up I
noticed the hum when I turned on the HV switch.... it has the solid
state recitifer replacements and 4 brand new 811's I doubt I ever use it
and I'de like to get my $250.00 back out of it...lol

Any chance it's just the power transformer laminations vibrating?

I'd worry more if it didn't hum.

Dave, you might try connecting a dummy load
and shorting the bias contacts of the amplifier,
to see if you get normal
resting current on the 811A's.
Also, look at the HV reading, and see how much it droops
with the bias contacts shorted compared to no load.

Have you tested the solid state rectifier in a tube tester,
same settings as the 866A.

Most rigs have some power transformer or choke hum. In fact, my HX-50 hums
louder as I crank up the RF drive -- and will probably "sing along" with voice
peaks on SSB.

I briefly owned one of those HK linears. The main PS choke had an internal
arc-over that pretty well drowned out any hum, and kept it from going on the
air. But it was nice to watch those four 811s light up. --Mike K.
