Halli PM 23 Spkr info needed

Good evening to all on the list,
I just acquired a PM 23 spkr (the style with the h) and am in the process of
restoring it. Several questions--the grill cloth under the grill is creme
colored. Is that the original color? Also the transformer looks like it could
be a substitution.
What is the impedance of the spkr itself (without the xfmr) and how can I tell
the input impedance of this mystery xfmr? When hooked to my SX 28A, the 5K
terminals had more clarity in the sound than the 500 ohm terminals (which
sounded more bassy). Just for the heck of it I measured the input resistance
and got 470 ohms.
Thanks for the help ahead of time, 73 Mike KF6KXG

Resistance and Impedance are two different animals. The ohmmeter only shows
you DC resistance....it tells you nothing of the impedance. You need to go
back to electronic school.

Just go with whatever connection sounds the best and produces the loudest
output out of the speaker.

The impedance of the raw speaker is most likely 8-ohms.

There was no call for you to make that snotty remark. The OP's usage of
terms impedance, and resistance were correct, and appropriate. His
measurement of the DC resistance was also an appropriate thing to do.

For one thing, it tells him that the impedance of the transformer must
be greater, much greater than the 470 ohms he measured. 5K would be
about right.

What's with the 11m comeback? He didn't confuse the two. He merely supplied
the DC resistance as additional data (which we all end up asking for
otherwise). --Mike K.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I know the difference btwn impedance and
resistance, but just felt extra data always helps. I will now assume that the
spkr transformer is the original and has a 5K input impedance as originally
designed. I would appreciate it if someone who has one of these looks through
the grill bars with a flashlight and tells me the grill cloth color so I know
if mine is stock (creme colored). Actually, I think black would look better,
but I want to keep it stock. 73 Mike KF6KXG
