Can anyone tell me what this is Pt2
 

Not paying attention, I posted or tried to post an image to this
group. In a few cases it took but I have posted it in the binaries.

Not all ISPs set all of their newsgroups to receive or propagate or allow
downloads of attachments from news posts. There was no image on my news
server for either of your messages. My ISP has set an error message that
says it allows binary attachements only in binary newsgroups (FYI) if I
try to post a message with an attached file to a newsgroup not set to
accept attached files.

Otherwise, consider placing the file in an http-accessible directory and
write the URL in your post.

It is VERY, VERY rude to post binaries to discussion groups. This is
about the most offensive thing you can do on Usenet. As a result, a lot
of backbone sites (including the one upstream of me) dump all binaries
in discussion groups.

The picture came through fine.

In which case, the picture should have been uploaded to the
poster's website and a link provided. Are there reeally that many ISPs
who don't provide at least a few meg for this purpose?

It's also a courtesy to those with low-speed connections who
read text-only groups. If they feel it's worth their line time to pull
the binary down using the link, they're free to do so, but not forced
to do so.

has tailored off the binary groups because he doesn't have the disk space
to carry them.

When people start posting binaries to disucssion groups, that disk space
gets used anyway. And if it gets bad, he'll start tailoring off the groups
that are full of binaries first, if he's like me.

It was an accident, mistake, whatever. I so seldom post pictures that
I didn't even think about what I was doing until after the fact. It
was too late to cancel when I did realize it and posted it to the
binaries.

But feel free to crucify me. That's what some people like to do on
Usenet.
