Why does AM reception vary so much from car to car?
I have an old Explorer and get better AM reception than in a new Lexus.
What can one do? Also, it seems electrical lines cause lots of problems. I try and listen to a small station Radio Sandy Springs 1620 AM in Sandy Springs, GA and some place I get great reception in other places lots of static. Again, what can a person do? |

I realize this is an old question, but I have not had access to the group for a while. The question is assumed the vehicles are operated in and arould the same locale. The short answer: the antenna. Change the antenna on the car and the reception should improve. The long answer: quality of the radio, antenna, and noise generated from ignition system, other electronics inside the car, Just because you payed for a better car does not mean that they cared about AM reception any more than the less costly model.
