On Tuesday, February 28 Alternative X101.7 KVXX Hamilton City dropped its format for Conservative Talk as Super Talk 101.7. The new format places the station in competition with Deer Creek Broadcastings News/Talk 1290 KPAY/98.1 K251AV. Later in the week Variety Hits 100.3 Jack-FM KBJK Concow flipped to Classic Country 100.3 The Outlaw KHEX utilizing programming from Westwood Ones Real Country network. The Variety Hits format is still available in the market on Results Radios 92.7 Bob-FM KBQB Chico. Due to the existence of Sewanee Phoenix 96.1 K241CS Phoenix rebroadcasting Christian 1280 The Trumpet on the west side of Phoenix, the move to 96.1 creates some coverage holes from the station. 96.1 K241BQ operates with a directional 120w vertical/426m as opposed to the 250w/426m that K270BZ was running. Update 2/13: The FCC has quickly acted on the STA request made by Riviera Broadcasting to accelerate its move of 96.1 K241BQ Fort McDowell AZ to Phoenix South Mountain prior to the granting of its Construction Permit by denying it. The FCC states that K27OBZs problems do not justify STA for K241BQ. Nor does the STA request supersede the need for a construction permit before such changes can be made. Finally, we do not consider STA requests made for the convenience of the applicant. K241BQ cannot move to South Mountain until the application is granted. Update 2/12: Riviera Broadcasting is seeking Special Temporary Authority to expedite its relocation of 96.1 K241BQ Fort McDowell AZ to the South Mountain Tower Farm just south of Phoenix. Riviera is in the process of acquiring K241BQ from MKhanGroup for $230,000 to supplant 101.9 K270BZ Phoenix as a simulcaster for Rhythmic CHR Power 98.3 KKFR Mayer via 103.9 KZON-HD3 Gilbert. K270BZ has received interference complaints from 101.9 KQSS Globe AZ and will go silent until Riviera can resolve those complaints. K241BQ seeks to operate with 120w/426m pointed directionally east towards Tempe and Mesa. Original Report 1/20: After closing on its $175,000 purchase of 96.1 K241BQ Fort McDowell AZ from John Lows 1TV.com, MKhanGroup LLC. turns around and sells the translator to Riviera Broadcasting for $230,000. K241BQ already holds a CP to relocate to Phoenix South Mountain tower farm with 120w vertical/449m rebroadcasting an HD subchannel of Rivieras 103.9 KZON Gilbert. The sale filing also mentions Riviera needs K241BQ to replace 101.9 K270BZ due to interference complaints filed by Gila 101.9 KQSS Miami AZ. K270BZ simulcasts the programming of Rhythmic CHR Power 98.3 KKFR Mayer via KZON-HD3 to cover the eastern side of the market. The addition of WFNI programming on 107.5 will replace the ESPN national lineup and is caused by a power reduction of 93.5 W228CX to 2w/296m due to interference the translator was causing to Woof Boom Radios Classic Rock Max 93.5 WMXQ Hartford City/Muncie. In the January 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings, WFNI/W228CX registered a 2.8 share of the audience, while W298BB fed via 93.1 WIBC-HD2 added an additional 0.4 share. WFNI carries ESPN Radios Mike Mike in mornings and NBC Sports Radio programming in nights and weekends. When the 107.5 ESPN lineup is eliminated, ESPN programming will replace NBC in those dayparts. Emmis Indianapolis is expanding its market-leading sports programming to include 107.5 FM. Beginning March 30th, in addition to 93.5 FM and 1070 AM, THE FAN lineup and programming will also air on 107.5 FM. THE FAN’s favorite local shows, including Mike Mike, Grady Big Joe, Dan Dakich and The Ride with JMV, will also be heard on 107.5 FM. Select ESPN programming currently heard on 107.5 FM will be integrated into the increased coverage of THE FAN on 107.5 FM, 93.5 FM and 1070 AM. Emmis will temporarily reduce power on 93.5 FM while working with the FCC to eliminate potential interference issues. Adding THE FAN’s programming to include 107.5 FM greatly increases THE FAN’s FM band coverage in and around Indianapolis.
