WBAV/WPEG Charlotte Revamp On-Air Lineups

Posted: 10 Mar 2017 10:02 AM PST
http://radioinsight.com/headlines/11...p-air-lineups/

From RadioInsight

Beasley Media Urban Power 98 97.9 WPEG Concord and Urban AC V101.9 WBAV
Gastonia/Charlotte have made changes to their on-air lineups.

At WPEG, MD/afternoon host Brian Mr. Incognito Robinson moves to mornings
as part of the Maddhouse Morning Show. He will be supplanted in afternoons
by local music promoter John Sport E. Odie Adams. Rounding out the changes,
WPEG brings Ya Girl Nikki in for nights from weekends at sister Foxy 99.1
WZFX Fayetteville.

At WBAV, all dayparts other than the syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show
will see new occupants although the station will bring former afternoon
host Derrick Fly Ty Jacobs back to host local morning inserts. Music
Director Cortney Hicks will move from afternoons to middays from 10am-3pm.
Former WPEG morning co-host/comedian Tone X returns to the market as
afternoon host from 3-7pm. The lineup will be rounded out by the addition
of Stu Hanna’s Baby Boy Robinson to voicetrack nights. Robinson previously
worked in the Charlotte market at 92.7 WCHH and most recently hosted
afternoons at iHeartMedias 95.7 The Beat WBTP Tampa.

Kenneth DJ Rham Blackmon will join both stations as Production/Imaging
Director. Blackman was APD/Production Director at Radio-Ones Charlotte
cluster until moving to Atlanta in 2012.

Beasley Media Group’s V 101.9/WBAV-FM “Your Favorite Throwbacks and Todays
RB!” announces details of recent staff alignments.

Cortney Hicks, who has served as afternoon talent, will shift into her new
role as the Daytime announcer from 10am – 3pm. She will also continue her
duties as V 101.9 Music Director.

“The on air finesse that Cortney brought to afternoons, will be the jolt
that we need in middays. She has a unique ability to make every listener
believe she’s their personal friend,” noted Operations Manager Jeff
Anderson.

With Cortney Hicks moving to middays, this means that the afternoon
position will be filled by a familiar friend, named Tone X. Tone X has
performed on a wide array of platforms. He was a mainstay as writer and
talent on BET’s “The Mo’Nique Show”, and currently still tours with
comedian and Academy Award winning actress Mo’Nique. Tone-X was previously
one of the co-host of “No Limit Larry and the Morning Madd House” on WPEG
Power 98 FM for 12 years, and is now making his return as the new Afternoon
host on WBAV from 3pm – 7pm.

WBAV also welcomes back Derrick “Fly Ty” Jacobs. Fly Ty was previously on
WBAV as afternoon drive co-host, and has also worked within the Charlotte
market, but now “The People’s Host” is back with Beasley. Listeners may
hear Fly Ty during programming, Monday – Friday 6am – 10am.

“It feels good to welcome back someone like Fly Ty, who has made his mark
in the community,” added Anderson. “We’ve missed him during his brief
absence from radio!”

Kenneth “DJ Rham” Blackmon makes his way back to Charlotte after being away
since 2012 when he was Assistant PD / Production Director for Radio One
WQNC/WPZS. He recently worked with CBS in Atlanta and also worked
independently with his personal production company. DJ Rham is now back as
the Production/Imaging Director for WBAV/WPEG.

“Rham has always had an ear and the originality for production, and has
managed to be a creative genius in story-telling, through imaging and
production,” commented Anderson.

After taking an extended break from radio, Stu “Hanna’s Baby Boy” Robinson
has made his return to the Carolinas. Stu was most recently afternoon drive
talent / Music Director for WBTP Tampa. Stu also previously worked in
Charlotte for Radio One’s WCHH when it was Hot 92.7. Stu is now back on air
with WBAV, tracking evenings, 7pm Midnight.

“All of these positive changes are a reminder that I am thankful to my GM
Bill Schoening,” said Anderson. “I have been given a chance to build a team
of talented radio professionals who can raise the bar of radio excellence
in the Queen City.”

Beasley Media Group’s Power 98/WPEG-FM “Charlotte’s Plug For New Hip-Hop
and RB!” announces details of recent staff changes.

After an extensive search, Jeff Anderson has hired Ya Girl Nikki for the
Evening host on Power 98, heard weekdays from 7pm – Midnight. Nikki most
recently served as a part-time on air announcer at WPEG’s sister station
(WZFX) in Fayetteville, NC.

Nikki’s talent has caught my attention for years!” said Operations Manager
Jeff Uzi D Anderson. “I’m totally convinced that Nikki’s impressive work
ethic, excellence in production, and outstanding energy will bring a needed
boost to Charlotte’s airwaves.”

Additionally, Brian Mr. Incognito Robinson, who has served as afternoon
talent, will shift into his new role as a new member of The Maddhouse
Morning Show. He will also continue his duties as Power 98 Music Director.

“Mr. Incognito has proven himself as a creative and multi-talented team
player, said Anderson. “His addition to the morning team is not only a
major move, but he also compliments the team for a thriving future as an
elite live and local morning show.”

With Mr. Incognito moving to mornings, this means that the afternoon
position will be filled by newcomer John Sport E. Odie Adams. Sport E. Odie
is well known in Charlotte and has established a highly respectable and
reputable street presence in the Queen City. He will host the afternoon
shift from 3p.m.-7p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Sport E. Odie brings his impressive work ethic and passion for branding
which he has already seen major success with in Charlotte,” Added
Anderson. “With his infectious energy and work he is already doing in the
community, he is more than ready to take our team to new levels of success!”

Bonneville Sells Phoenix AM To Cesar Chavez Foundation

Posted: 09 Mar 2017 04:07 PM PST
http://radioinsight.com/headlines/11...ez-foundation/

From RadioInsight

Bonneville has sold 860 KMVP Phoenix to Cesar Chavez Foundations Farmworker
Educational Radio Network, Inc. for $800,000.

The foundation currently owns shared-time 88.3 KNAI Phoenix, which operates
from 5:00am to 7:30pm daily as part of its Regional Mexican La Campesina
network. The acquisition of KMVP follows a consent decree with the FCC last
year to swap its Visalia CA market station for a commercial frequency for
airing commercials on a non-commercial license. This sale now gives the
group a commercial allocation in Phoenix. Is a sale of its part of 88.3 or
swap for a translator the next play to make the group legal in Phoenix?

860 KMVP had been airing a brokered Gospel format in recent years. A new
LMA with the buyer will start in April.

This is to announce that a contract has been signed and an application is
being filed with the FCC for the transfer of radio station KMVP-AM,
Phoenix, Arizona from Bonneville International Corporation to Farmworker
Educational Radio Network, Inc.

The Seller, Bonneville International Corporation is a Utah corporation.
Bonneville also owns radio stations in Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and
Seattle, along with TV and newspaper in Salt Lake City.

The Buyer, Farmworker Educational Radio Network, Inc. is a California
corporation that owns and operates stations in Arizona, California, Nevada,
and Washington.

KMVP-AM operates at 860 kHz, with 0.940kW day; 1.0kW night. KALIL CO.,
INC. is the exclusive broker for this transaction.
