New to XM, and liking it so far
 

I've not heard of this happening and haven't experienced it myself.
My in-home receiver is a Sky Fi in a room next to our kitchen and
reception is perfect, at all times.

Once in a blue moon there will be a little dead air or a dropout of
some kind from XM -- highly unusual though to have ANY kind of
interference. Bet you won't see it regularly.

Have you tried to make it happen again with the microwave?

Encouraged by the info and feedback I got in here recently, I went
out and got me a tuner for XM last week.
As I wanted to listen to it at home and not in a car, I got the home
conversion kit and was able to get it operating easily enough.
I'm getting a first class signal, and am highly delighted with the
output they offer. The ordinary radio will not be much used from
now on, I suspect....

One thing did puzzle me, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced
this.
I was happily listening to one of the classical music channels when
there was suddenly total silence. Checked that the power supply
hadn't failed, and a few minutes later, the sound came back on.
Then a few minutes later, the same thing happened: no music, nothing.
Further investigation revealed that the missus had toddled into the
kitchen and operated one of the two microwave ovens. While this was
on, XM was silent.
This microwave is a bit different from the normal, in that it has a
voice that echoes keypresses, advises on current state of cooking,
time remaining and so on.
The layout of window, antenna, tuner and microwave are like this:

The window on right faces due east, the microwave sits with its back
to a west facing wall very roughly about 15 feet from the tuner,
and of course in a separate room with plasterboard and timber walls separating
them.
Can anyone knowledgeable on radio signals and frequencies shed any
light on this?
