Classical Music Format Host Processing?

What audio processing gives the ``classical announcer boom'' to
classical music stations? Columbus Ohio has the same ``Radio Station
of the New York Times'' sound on their announcer. It can't be that people
actually sound that way in real life, that work in classical stations.

I mean you won't be behind somebody at Kroger and discover that he
announces classical music by listening to him talk to the cashier.

Hoffnung had a cartoon of an opera basso with an electronic ``wobble''
adjustment on his chest; perhaps there is a similar attachment for
classical announcers? ``bass boom'' box.

If there is such an attachment, why don't DJs use it too?

They do.

I heard Gary Owens live once, without any amplification. And he sounded
just like Gary Owens.

We don't use mic processing at any of our classical stations; the
only processing is on the program feed as a whole, just before it
goes to the transmitter.

BTW, I really love the Inovonics Omega FM.

Possibly some of it can be attributed to the choice of mics, the Shure SM7
has great 'presence' when used up close. Not boomy, just in your face
presence. Nice mic, wish I could justify owning one.

I just put an Aphex 2020 MKIII on-line with our classical/jazz format
(it replaced a Orban 2200). I can't say enough good about it. Analog
processing is good...very good.
