Old AM Rockers
WKBW / 1510 / Buffalo - Tom Shannon and others. --- Always 1520, except pre-NARBA when it was 1480. Now WWKB. WABC / 770 / NYC / Cousin Brucie. --- Now News-Talk, aping KGO's highly successful format. WOWO - Ft. Wayne --- Dead, dead, dead ... but still consuming considerable electrical power. WLS - Chicago --- Now News-Talk, aping KGO's highly successful format. CKLW / 800 / Somewhere in Canada - came on when our local 800 left the air. --- Windsor, Ontario, but actually intended to serve Detroit. WWVA / 1170 / Wheeling - had to love those pre-profit Stair preachers. --- Proposed move to the Cleveland area, with a reduction in night power by about half, and DA-2 instead of DA-N. Will likely require taking 1150 dark to do this. Wanna go waaaaayyyyy back? WCKY / Cincinnati One, Ohio .. Wayne Rainey and the Rainey Family. --- Back at it as WSAI, with "rock 'n' roll's first generation", and sounding very good. Contract religion after 12 am EST weekdays, 11 pm Saturdays and 9 pm Sundays, returning to oldies at 5 am. WCKY call went to co-owned 1360, from which the WSAI call, and apparently the format came. Night pattern changed to favor Cincinnati, the station's present COL, and Covington, KY, the station's original COL (from whence came W-C-KY). Carries lots of ads for businesses and not-for-profits in the Covington area. Also carries U of KY sports. Essentially a "tri-state" focus (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana), but with little emphasis on Indiana. |
