Has XERF boosted it's power?

The last couple nights, I have heard a strong Spanish speaking station
on 1570 here in the Des Moines, Iowa area. I haven't been able to catch
the call letters.

I understand that in recent years, although XERF is licensed for 50,000
watts, it has been limping along at 10,000 watts. Of course 50,000
watts is nothing compared to the power they ran in the "border blaster'
days.

XERF is licensed for 250,000 watts, the power they ran decades ago as a
border blaster.

They ran 17,000 watts for many years after being purchased by IMER, the
Mexican Government's rural and indigenous radio agency. Just recently, some
6 months ago, they raised power again to 100 kw. There is some feeling that
they run 10 to 25 kw days, and 100 kw at night. In the 60's, they only
operated 6 PM to 6 AM, with no daytime broadcasting.
