EPG and new Portable DAB on Show
Imagination Technologies is demonstrating its Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) support for DAB digital radios at 3GSM 2005. In addition the company is also showing the first handheld DAB radio with pause, rewind, record and MP3 support. The new EPG receiver and front-end software from Ensigma enables users to browse programmes for a single station or all programmes on at a particular time, and to select them for scheduled listening or recording to SD memory card. The EPG is being demonstrated on the advanced PURE Digital's - Bug DAB digital radio. Says David McBrien, VP Business Development, Imagination Technologies: "The EPG brings the functionality we now take for granted in digital television broadcasts to DAB digital radio and is set to permanently change the way listeners interact with their radios." Both Ensigma and PURE Digital have been actively involved in the WorldDAB EPG TaskForce's development of a new open standard EPG. Imagination's IP dominates the DAB market, with 70% market share. It played a pivotal role in key DAB innovations such as the first sub-£100 DAB receivers and the first DAB radios with pause, rewind and record. Imagination Technologies' IP features in the vast majority of handheld DAB products and the WorldDAB press event at 3GSM will see the debut of the first handheld DAB radios with pause and record. The new Kino chip from Frontier Silicon, launched at the show, provides a dedicated hardware solution for T-DMB based on the META(tm) processor core and Ensigma UCC (Universal Communications Coprocessor) intellectual property licensed from Imagination Technologies. This provides mobile TV handset manufacturers with maximum flexibility for configuring their handsets and the options that they can provide to their customers. |
