Seanán writes "Seanán Ó Coistín, the independent republican candidate for
Kildare North, welcomes the decision of the Broadcasting Commission of
Ireland to licence more radio stations but feels it is very late and new
station will find it difficult to break the current monopolies of existing
stations. He also rejects the notion that the radio market is saturated.

As part of his election policy platform, Mr. Ó Coistín wants to see more
radio stations licensed as the current situation is unfair. Most counties
have only one local independent radio station whereas Dublin has eight radio
stations. Even though county Kildare is the fastest growing area in Ireland,
it still only has one radio station, KFM. Mr. Ó Coistín believes this does
not give listeners much choice and is against competition rules.

"While I welcome the decision to licence more stations, it should have
happened a decade ago. I want to see many local stations offering many
different programming styles so that listeners have as much choice of radio
as possible. There is plenty of room on the bandwidth to allow new stations
to broadcast."

All the details of Mr. Ó Coistín's proposals are found on his website

He has experience of radio presentation on Dublin and Limerick radio
stations.
