A Canadian record for the world's deepest live radio broadcast may soon join
records for the world's deepest mine, deepest cave and deepest half-marathon
in the Guinness Book of Records.

The necessary documentation has been sent to a Guinness adjudicator in
London after CBC Sudbury completed a live broadcast from more than two
kilometres underground yesterday.

Points North, CBC Sudbury's afternoon radio show, was broadcast from Inco's
Creighton mine. It took host Dan Lessard and others nearly 40 minutes to
reach their destination: the broadcast was conducted from the part of the
mine known as "the deep" -- located underground at a depth of about four
times the height of Toronto's CN Tower.

Chris Marais, the Guinness adjudicator for sports and music, said that the
advance paperwork for the possibly record-setting broadcast appeared to be
in order and that he was hoping for a quick turnaround.

"Radio broadcasting is something that's done all around the world, so it's
obviously of global relevance. And we've taken the view that deepest live
radio broadcast is something we want to monitor," he said.
