Need A New CB
I haven't used one in over twenty years.
We bought a Motor home and figure we need one to keep up with road conditions etc ahead of us. I've been looking and like the features of Galaxies bu they are pricey. I would like to et a 10 meter if the license isn't too bothersome to get. What would you recommend in just a regular Cb and or a 10 meter? Are the Truck Stops offering a good price on a preferred unit? I really don't want to buy over the Internet. I haven't found one CB shop or a retailer, other than Radio Shack, withing 50 miles. |

If you just want to talk to others on the road when travel a cheep radio
from radio shack or a yard sale will work fine. A good place to buy used equipment cheap eBay (you can pay by money order on most of it). The galaxies are good if you have the money to buy an illegal radio. No mater what radio you get you will need is the best antenna you can get. The antenna is the must important part of a radio system. |

All you are looking for in channel 19. The Unidens are fine, and under $100. The Galaxies are a overrated drift machine, that is overkill for your use. Vinnie S. |

Hello john:
Yeah what Vinnie S. said, Ten-4! Good call. I have a few friends with motor homes, and they all had problems with the antenna mounting. Or crappie cheap antennas falling apart on the motor home. The fix for this is using a 3/16 thick steel plate 12 x 12 inches that will allow the magnet mount Wilson 1000 to be attached to. The 3/16" x 12" x 12" steel plate is available from most any metal supply places, and more than likely all ready pre-made ready to go. The Wilson 1000 has a very flexible whip antenna, that will not get damaged when going underneath Gas Stations or low lying stuff. And shouldn't take out Fluorescent Lights. Mine didn't, but has a few memorable slight dings when something was hit hard, will not effect the antennas performance.. They RTV'ed the plate to the motor home roof, this allows the magnet mount antenna something to stick to and the aluminum sheet metal on the top of the motor home to be the proper ground plane as needed. And with Fiberglass Motor Homes, connecting 3 each, 102 inch long wires to the metal plate will work for the ground plane. The wires can be routed in any direction, and held down with the same Rubber Silicon RTV. One other thing that is a must! You will need a radio that has a "Noise Limiter" switch on the front. This will significantly reduce any electrical noises coming from the motor home. Believe me they didn't make the Motor Home free of electrical noises. Some guys have a CB Shop install the radio, tell em you don't want any engine, alternator, engine computer noises, or other electrical noises in the radio, when the engine is running. Got to have the engine running. Motor Homes are famous for NOT having a 6 or 4 gauge wire connected to the Engine Block or Alternator or Starter going to the batteries negative Terminal. This is done to save a few dollars for the Motor Home Manufacture. But this will force the Engine Starter and Alternator currents to go thru the vehicles drive train and frame causing electrical noises. Its also a good call to install grounding wires from the fender to firewall to the hood, this fixed a Lions Majority of noises in the Ford F250 4X4 Truck, with the worlds loudest PA System. Its a blast at Old Car and Oldie but Goodie night at the drivein! Also for slow pokes in traffic! Any way good luck. Jay in the Mojave john wrote: I haven't used one in over twenty years. You can't use CB anymore because of all the retards farting, belching and playing music. SC |
