Cobra 29 WX NW ST trouble..

I can't figure out what's wrong with my Cobra 29 WX/NW/ST. I moved it
from one of our trucks to another....installed the same way as before,
and get no sound from the speaker on CB channels. The weather band
sounds just fine though. Went to RadioSmack and bought a new antenna
and cable.....still no dice. Took mic apart, no wires broken, and
clean inside. What the heck could be wrong??

The mic would be my first suspect, too..... did you check the switch?
It may just have a bad contact. Also check the squelch. If the mic is
good (and all your front panel switches are correct) then there's
something wrong inside. As far as repairing it yourself, that depends
on your electronics skills.

I would check the weather/cb switch...
P.S. Make sure you haven't inadvertantly moved a front panel switch
into the public address (PA) function.

All of my front panel switches are set correctly. I even readjusted
my SWR/CAL. When I switch to CB, the speaker makes a small pop noise,
and when I key on the mic, my needle swings all the way to right, but
cant get a sound from speaker. If I switch to WEATHER, it takes about
2-3 seconds longer than usual, but the weather slowly comes on. I've
replaced everything except for the radio so far...... still confused.

Can you verify that your transmitter is operating (RF output)... and
that you have modulation on that output signal when talking into the
mic?

Sorry, I do not know enough about electronics to answer those
questions....however, I CAN tell you that when I key in on CH 19, and
ask for a radio check, someone must hear me, because my needle swings
over pretty far after a few seconds. I get sound from an external
speaker plugged into PA spker, and EXT spker for weather band, just
not CB.

After thinking about this and going over what has been said... I now
have the feeling that there is something wrong with the CB receiver
section... not the audio. We have to remember that the weather
frequencies are much different from the CB... and use a totally
different receiver section. Therefore, the weather could work... but
not the CB.

So what you're implying is that the CB receiver is functioning... when
you say you see received signals on the meter. I guess your problem is
that the RF coming in either is not being detected (to recover
audio)... or the detected audio is never making it to the audio
amplifier chain.

1] open the squelch knob
2] unplug external speaker
3] adjust volume control to comfortable listening
