CB Radio tech question
hello,
I have a question about CB radios... I don't have one (yet), otherwise I'd just try this. Is it possible to speak through the microphone and hear your voice coming out of the speaker, WITHOUT having the sound of the CB radio receive coming through? In other words, can you "mute" the radio reciever and hear your voice in the speaker? I have a bus, and I'm looking for a way I can amplify my voice and talk to the passengers. I thought maybe if I got a CB, I could not only use it as a CB, but I could also use it to make announcements to the passengers. If this would work as described, I would connect the output of the CB to the AUX input of the car stereo that is used to play music in the bus. Will this work? Thanks gary in vermont |

They are designed to drive a speaker directly. A cheap powerhorn from Radio Shack and a 1/8" plug will have you in business. All you would have to do is mount the PA horn somewhere pointing toward the riders. |

You could get another speaker or a PA horn; but going to the AUX input would
work. I've done this several times. Be careful not to turn the volume up on the CB too high, though. The AUX input is probably pretty sensitive. If you get a loud hum, you might have to get an audio transformer (RatShack Catalog #: 273-1380) for $2.99. I used one to get rid of hum from using CAT5 computer network cable to get audio from my Dish satellite tuner to my computer. The audio is now excellent. Good luck and have fun!
