GMRS question

: HI All, My brother is interested in getting a 2 pack of Midland g-300's for us to use the GMRS band. He said that an FCC license is required. Does anyone here know if the license covers all radios you own? For example if my brother and I were to use these, do we just need one license? anyone know? One license is needed. This covers all radios you own and all persons in your specific household. If your brother and you live at different addresses, each of you would need to get your own license. -- John L. Yes you only need 1 license each to talk on any GMRS radio. but why
don't you try the FRS radios. you don't need a license with them and can talk a long ways i believe 2 miles at least On Tue, 16 Sep 2003 03:33:54 GMT, "Jason" wrote: HI All, My brother is interested in getting a 2 pack of Midland g-300's for us to use the GMRS band. Screw that , Just use them NO PROBLEM
Nobody else get the license. Just like in the old days of CB, they finally dropped the license idea after everyone had one. it ran out of controll. Still does today. AMps, out of band, ect. That may have been and still may be the case; however, one only has to look
at the music industry. They sued some of the file-swapping networks and others appeared. Finally, they started whacking the users. The whacks given to the college students were likely not far out of line the whacks the FCC may (or may not) start leveling at folks running improperly operating/unlicensed/whatever. Perhaps and perhaps not. I wouldn't bet a nickel either way, let alone 17 grand :) 73 from Rochester, NY Jim "BuckEye" wrote in message news:jZG9b.478252$uu5.82365@sccrnsc04... There is nothing in 95.179 that states that all users have to live at the same address. It only describes the family members covered. This includes aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, etc. It is highly unlikely that all the family tree would be living in the same house. Dick |

Actually, the rules say nothing about households. Here's the excerpt: "TITLE 47--TELECOMMUNICATION COMMISSION (CONTINUED) PART 95--PERSONAL RADIO SERVICES--Table of Contents Subpart A--General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) Sec. 95.179 Individuals who may be station operators. (a) An individual GMRS system licensee may permit immediate family members to be station operators in his or her GMRS system. Immediate family members are the: (1) Licensee; (2) Licensee's spouse; (3) Licensee's children, grandchildren, stepchildren; (4) Licensee's parents, grandparents, stepparents; (5) Licensee's brothers, sisters; (6) Licensee's aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; and (7) Licensee's in-laws." All it states is "immediate family members" with no stipulation on residence. |

don't you try the FRS radios. you don't need a license with them and can talk a long ways i believe 2 miles at least But with GMRS, you can use mobile or base radios with up to 50 watts and even use repeaters. I personally got into GMRS because my wife doesn't want to get a ham license and this will allow us to talk when one of us is out. I bought 3 Standard UHF mobile radios (30 watts each). I've got a GMRS base antenna outside, which will eventually be about 10 feet above the roof and the other two radios will be in our 2 cars with Antenex NMO mount antennas on the trunk. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 73! de Andy KC2SSB - WPYI880 (GMRS) Beachwood, NJ USA! A license is still required! Those running illegally should be fined severly!
