Any FRS or FRS/GMRS combo with a small built-in antenna will get the same range,
About a mile on the ground. This distance increases if you are on a big hill or
on top of a tall building. UHF is line of sight. (Think flashlight).

I do mean _ANY_. Don't believe that 7 mile BS on the package.

No. CB is noisy and full of foul language (on standard AM, sideband ops are much better).
MURS equipment is hard to come by, but is 2 watt FM with external antennas.

Don't let Stew (Horseshoe7) fill you full of BS. FRS does what it's supposed to do:
A short range communication device. For some it's all they need...

For $19.99, go and buy them and try them out. You can always use them
when your wife is out mowing the lawn and you want another cold beer.

This is a trick question!
Can we assume that the UHaul will be traveling from KC, going west to
CA? If so, at what speed? Will the Focus be traveling also? If so, in
what direction and at what speed? The $19.99 is a number that really
has no significance. To answer your question as stated, yes, they will
work (assuming they have batteries). Will they contact each other?
Well, that is a very long distance, and from what I understand,
antenna height is all important. I think the question that needs to
asked is how far apart they will be when they are first able to make
contact? There are too many variables involved to answer that one. Why
couldn't you just ask where the two will meet? Damn, I hate word
problems!

As long as you stay below light speed, yes.

There's a $5 rebate on those.

The Cobra website in general. Check out those Xtreme CB's.

Not true - a set of "real" GMRS mobile radios with "real" antennas
will get 7 miles under decent conditions.

No. CB is noisy and full of foul language (on standard AM, sideband ops are much better).

But, with decent antennas, it is far better for mobile use than FRS
and FRS/GMRS hybrids(which aren't "real" GMRS radios).

MURS equipment is hard to come by, but is 2 watt FM with external antennas.

It is NOT hard to come by... try the 10 channel TEKK NT-10 2W handheld
with external antenna and NOAA Weather Channel provisions... available
from a number of sources online for $129.

There are others as well... check the archives in the MURS-OPEN group
for more info.

If you never need to communicate more than about 1/2-mile, then FRS is
what you want. Otherwise, go with Ham, MURS, "real" GMRS, or even 11m
CB radio.

Silly rabbit - FRS is for kids!
