Betty Lee Halbert wife of LeeRoy Halbert former KOD-4190 long time CB'ers
passed away last night. With her husband LeeRoy KOD-4190 was one of the
pinnacle and most widely heard stations in central New Jersey for four
decades.. For more than four decades Betty monitored channel 19 assisting
thousands of drivers with daily road reports.

It wasn't uncommon during the 60's & 70's for Betty and LeeRoy to help
stranded motorists and truckers in their area. On more than one occasion
Betty was honored by local governments for her assistance in communications
when CB was in it's prime.

From their shack of two Browning Golden Eagles and two five element vertical
beams using only legal power they established a following of national
listeners. In the mid seventies the singer Chubby Checker paid a visit to
Betty after assisting when his tour bus broke down on Rt. 35 in NJ. Betty
and LeeRoy exchanged thousands of QSL cards throughout the word and was
recognized by the late Senator and Amateur Radio Operator Barry Goldwater as
fine examples of the radio community.
