Cobra 75 WX ST problems

Hi - I have a Cobra 75 WX ST that has done great duty for me for the
last 5 years. In the last couple of months though I have noticed an
increase in "noise" from the unit - sounding rather like the speaker
is blown.

I took the unit apart (it's way past warranty) and everything looks
fine although I didn't remove the speaker which is embedded in the
face. I'm expecting that I need to replace the speaker, or is there
something else I should examine?

If I need to replace the speaker, or have it checed by an "expert", is
there a shop in the north part of Toronto - I work at the 401 & 404 -
which can reliably do the job for a good price?

Thanks

Have you considered just adding an external speaker? These are generally of
much higher quality as well.

I plugged some old computer speakers in and the sound quality from
them is fine. For the short term I've duct-taped them to the back of
the console of the Jeep. I'll probably have to figure out a better
mounting at some time.
