The mast is not a good resonator at 27 MHz. The tuning box on this antenna
merely allows the radio to see a bad antenna as a resonant antenna. It would perform poorly. You want a separate CB antenna. The proper length for a CB antenna is 108". That's a 102" whip plus 6" for the spring. Anything shorter is tuned by a coil somewhere in the antenna. While this is a compromise, antennas longer than 4 ft. should give good performance. If you must have something shorter, look at the Wilson Little Wil. It's about 3 ft. long. If you want something cheap but decent and even shorter, the Cobra AT35 can be found on eBay for less than $10. It is 26" tall.
