A stupid CB'er ruins another nice amplifier!

I'm posting this in hopes that someone else will not make the same
mistake as the real life CB idiot in this true tale.

A ham friend lost his job and needed some money. He had a beautiful
Henry 2K Console amplifier with two 3-500z tubes. He sold it to a
local CB'er for the unbelievable price of $500!!!!!! The CB'er using
the typical CB mentality decided to take a small CB amp, drive another
CB amp with a single 3-500z tube, and then use that amp to drive the
two 3-500z tubes in the Henry 2K Console, because he thought it would
put out 5000 watts. Well about all the Henry put out was a puff of
smoke.
For future reference the recommended drive power for a single 3-500z
is 46 watts and twice that for two 3-500z tubes. That is not 46 watts
carrier and 100 watts swing. That is 46 watts max including forward
swing. At 2500 plate volts in grounded grid class B operation you
should get about 600 watts per tube. Below are the specs for a 3-500z
tube. Yes you can over drive them to get more, but the more you over
drive them the sooner it will be until the tubes or the amplifier goes
bye bye. Please don't be an idiot and send another nice amplifier to
the CB graveyard by overdriving it.

Ugghh..That's a really nasty thing to do to a very nice piece of gear. Too
bad he didn't stick his hand in there and get bit a few times for doing
something so stupid. Is it history?

Psychiatrist to keyclowns December 22nd 04 08:35 PM

Well, at least a keyclown is not using the amp. That is good news. The
ham could have got 500 bucks as a starting bid on ebay in a hot minute.
That guy should have his bootie pierced with knitting needles for
selling the amp to a gay gay gay gay gay keyclown.

By the way, notice how mopeydopey doesn't comment about the really
nasty thing he does, which is meeting truckers in truckstop toilets to
earn money to buy keyclown gear.
