Bought a Kenwood TS-480SAT and converted it to CB - ts-480_mars-cap_mod.pdf (0/1)

About 6 weeks ago, I plunked down $950 and bought a TS-480SAT to use
as a new 11m base rig. I have been very happy with it's performance.
After making sure that it was working 100%, I performed the
modification found on http://mods.dk/. I used a sharp exacto knife to
lift off the SMT R221. You have to use a magnifying glass to get a
good eyeball on it. It has an antenna tuner built in and it has 100 w
of SSB. It has DSP so you can enhance your audio on TX-RX. You can
control it with various software proggies (very handy for SWL). On
AM I get very favorable radio reports. On SSB, I worked a station in
Newfoundland and he said he was "very impressed" with the audio. I
have never heard it on air, but Kenwood's tend have more bass in their
audio. It has nice speech processing, but I suspect my Turner +3
defeats it, so I leave it off. I doesn't need any special filters for
it to sound right, as you control that with the DSP. So if your
considering buying a new 11 meter base radio, get one of these instead
a RCI or Melaka.

Love live pirate radio!!!!!!!!! AKC smokes Cock!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't sell my base CB for a grand. :)
